Unseen Stars: Empowering Crown Wards through Creative Expression | North York, Ontario, Canada
Chloe Sanchez grew up as a crown ward in Ontario and faced profound loss and adversity but found strength in literature, poetry, and nature. These passions inspired her to establish theatre and arts summer camps for youth and the Willowdale Holistic Garden Club, which uses creativity and nature to foster healing. As a published author and advocate, Chloe focuses on supporting vulnerable youth, addressing issues around literacy, and accessibility to holistic healing. Joining the 2024 Ontario Community Changemakers cohort aligns with her commitment to accessibility and equality, providing a platform to collaborate with like-minded leaders for dynamic change.
About the Project
“Unseen Stars” aims to empower Crown Wards through literary and performance arts, culminating in a final public performance at venues like libraries, community centers, or theatres. The project offers workshops in writing, poetry, storytelling, and theatrical performance, led by mentors skilled in both arts and mentorship. By transforming public spaces into hubs of creative expression, "Unseen Stars" showcases the artistic achievements of Crown Wards and invites community members to engage with their journey of resilience and empowerment. The initiative fosters dialogue and understanding, breaking down stereotypes and promoting social inclusion, thereby enhancing civic engagement and building supportive connections in Ontario.
