As a second-generation Tamil immigrant, her lived experiences have shaped her passion for social equity, which led her to co-found the Care for Change Project. Kasthuri is excited to be an Ontario Community Changemaker and eager to foster connection and resilience through her work!

About the Project

The project will host a cooking workshop for South Asian women who are pre-diabetic or diagnosed with diabetes, teaching them how to prepare diabetes-friendly South Asian dishes. Participants will receive a booklet created by an interdisciplinary team featuring culturally relevant recipes. The workshop will include guest speakers like South Asian dietitians and diabetes educators and will provide a safe space for women to share their experiences, reducing the stigma around diabetes. Booklets will be distributed to local health centers and available online, and public kitchens will be used to inspire future community events.
