CommUNITY HUB Outreach | Toronto, Ontario, Canada
As a current student of Disability Studies and working at the church on a contract after volunteering there for nearly a year, I have witnessed many opportunities for us to engage deeper with community members. With a desire to create bridges across the various communities in the downtown Toronto core, I have pulled from my previous experiences in Hospitality and Tourism, as well as the corporate world to create a plan that I hope will foster empathy and care.
About the Project
The project will occur mere steps away from the busiest intersection in the core of downtown Toronto, where several tourists visit every day. We will foster relationships between volunteer leaders and houseless community members through gardening and sharing pathways to support. We will build on what already exists, as we already provide refreshments, harm reduction, and clothing to the community. We intend to provide stipends to houseless members who help maintain the gardens and square. We will enhance our civic engagement with walking tours of the church, sharing the historical significance.
